Solo vacations are on the rise, especially among African Americans. Over 59% of African Americans travel alone, according to the Travel Industry Association of America.
A significant expense for most solo vacationers is the single supplement rate. A single supplement rate (which can be as much as 200% above the cost of the trip) is charged by hotels, tours, and cruises and is used as a means to recoup losses associated with single bookings.
