NT: Hearing into police shooting set down for April

A Northern Territory police officer accused of unlawfully shooting a man dead at a
remote Aboriginal community will face a committal hearing in April.

Sergeant ROBERT GREGORY WHITTINGTON is charged with two counts of committing an act
causing danger and death.

The charges relate to the death of an 18-year-old man and injury to another at Wadeye,
350 kilometres south-west of Darwin, on October the 23rd last year.

A committal hearing into the charges was today set down for April next year in the
Darwin Magistrates Court.

Defence lawyer IAN ROWBOTTAM says some 80 witnesses are expected to be called.

The case has been adjourned until December the 18th to confirm the dates and time needed
for the hearing.
